Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully. By creating an account or using the FARO Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

1. The Service

FARO Financial Technologies Inc. ("FARO," "we," "us," or "our") provides a personal finance management web application ("the Service") at https://faro.finance. The Service allows users to manually track income, expenses, savings goals, and scheduled payments using the 6-Vault or 50/30/20 budgeting methodology.

FARO is a personal finance tool, not a financial advisor. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial, tax, investment, or legal advice. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions.

2. Eligibility

To use FARO, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction);
  • Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement;
  • Not be prohibited from using the Service under applicable law.

By creating an account, you represent that you meet these eligibility requirements.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must provide accurate and current information when creating your account. You must notify us immediately at legal@faro.finance if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or harm other users or the Service.

4. Subscription Plans & Payment

4.1 Plans

FARO offers the following plans:

  • FARO Core (Free): Unlimited transactions, 3 goals, 1 budget, and 3 months of report history. Available at no charge.
  • FARO Pro: Unlimited goals, up to 3 budgets, full report history, custom vaults, and additional features. Billed monthly or annually.
  • FARO Pro+: All Pro features plus up to 10 budgets, gamification (XP, levels, achievements), The Settlement feature, Quests theme, and priority support.

4.2 Billing

  • Paid subscriptions are billed in advance, either monthly or annually, depending on the plan selected.
  • All prices are displayed in Canadian Dollars (CAD) unless otherwise specified.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date.

4.3 Cancellation & Refunds

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Settings page or by contacting us. Your access to paid features continues until the end of the current billing period.
  • We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee for new paid subscriptions. If you are not satisfied, contact us within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund.
  • After the 14-day window, subscription fees are non-refundable unless required by law.

4.4 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription prices. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any price changes. Your continued use of the Service after the price change takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the new price.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts, systems, or networks connected to the Service;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service;
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to access or interact with the Service;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service;
  • Enter false, misleading, or fraudulent financial information intended to harm or deceive others.

6. Your Data & Content

You retain full ownership of all financial data and content you enter into FARO ("User Content"). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

We do not claim any proprietary rights over your financial data. We will never sell or share your financial data with advertisers or other third parties for commercial purposes.

You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter. FARO relies on information you provide and does not independently verify any financial data.

7. Account Deletion & Data Export

You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account. Upon deletion:

  • All your personal information and financial data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
  • Billing records required by law will be retained for the legally required period (7 years under the Canada Revenue Agency guidelines).

We recommend exporting your transaction history (CSV) before deleting your account, as this data cannot be recovered after deletion.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, software, branding, and content created by FARO ("FARO Content"), is owned by FARO Financial Technologies Inc. and protected by Canadian and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, transmit, display, perform, publish, license, create derivative works from, or sell any FARO Content without our express written permission.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We do not warrant the accuracy of any financial projections, forecasts, or recommendations displayed by the Service.

You use the Service at your own risk. FARO is a planning and tracking tool — actual financial outcomes may differ from projections.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FARO Financial Technologies Inc., ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages;
  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill;
  • Any financial loss resulting from reliance on the Service;
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) CAD $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless FARO Financial Technologies Inc. and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any third-party rights.

12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Québec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved first through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved within 30 days, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration in Montréal, Québec, in accordance with the arbitration rules of the Québec Bar Association, unless you are located in the European Union (in which case you may bring claims before your local courts).

You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against FARO to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notification at least 14 days before the changes take effect (or as required by applicable law).

If you continue to use the Service after the updated Terms take effect, you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account.

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account, at our sole discretion, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties, or for any other reason.

Upon termination, all licenses granted to you under these Terms immediately terminate. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including limitations of liability, disclaimers, and dispute resolution) will survive.
